The anecdotes
Cognac is a very serious subject. But why not also discovering a few
little funny stories about it?
A high-flying operation
In spring '95, on board a British Airways Boeing, a 39 year old woman
passenger required an urgent surgical operation. Having had a motorbike
accident on her way to the airport, she suffered broken ribs and a punctured
lung. Doctors on board decided to operate immediately using available
utensils such as knives and forks ! Still, they had to be sterilised.
Quality cognac on board did the job.
A toast to armistice
On the 11 November 1918, the treaty which ended the 1st World War was
signed. The official signing took place on board a train in the forest
of Compiegne, in Rethonde. The French army was represented by Marshal
Foch and the German army by General Von Winterfeld. History claims that
a "Martell" cognac was served after the signing.
Cognac in Hollywood
The film is called "Where Eagles Dare" directed by Brian G.Hutton
in 1968, with Clint Eastwood. The action takes place in the heart of
the Alps during the second World War. A British commando is given the
mission to free an American POW from a mountain fortress and it succeeds.
But what do you think the members of the commando order from the local
innkeeper to boost their morale ? Well a cognac of course.
